Animation of dream jobs

Spokane is America’s premier destination for an art exhibit dedicated to Dreamworks animation, visiting the MAC in Spring 2022. You know Shrek will be there.

Tthe nostalgia we receive watching a favorite childhood movie isn’t easy to replicate, but the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture brings that feeling to Spokane.

The Spokane MAC is expected to be the very first American destination for DreamWorks Animation: the exhibition route, from sketch to screen. Open on March 19, 2022 and until September 5, this exhibition celebrates more than 25 years of DreamWorks animation.

The exhibition features more than 400 objects, including rare and never-before-seen archival documents such as concept drawings, storyboards, photographs, paintings and other artwork from the animated classics. From anti-social ogres to playful and protective dragons, visitors will be transported to the much-loved stories of DreamWorks.

The exhibition is divided into four areas that take visitors on a journey through the creative processes behind the films. The character, the story and the world explain how the stories evolve and how the imaginary worlds imagined by the animators come to life. The Drawing Room section houses the Animation Desk digital kiosks that allow visitors to tap into their creative side and hand-draw their own movie footage on software developed by DreamWorks for their own animators.

Wes Jessup, MAC’s Executive Director is delighted to present the exhibition in the United States for the first time.

“It’s an honor for the MAC to offer this in-depth look at DreamWorks’ visionary approach to animation,” says Jessup. “We look forward to bringing visitors from across the Pacific Northwest and Western Canada to Spokane for this exhibit perfect for families, fans, students, art lovers and creatives.”
