The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection includes 13 retro games coming to PlayStation in 2022

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Cowabunga Collection was unveiled by PlayStation earlier this week to add to their slate of retro game remakes that will launch in 2022. In this fan-requested collection, all 13 console and arcade games and their regional releases will be brought to PlayStation . This means that the Cowabunga collection will feature all western version of 8-bit and 16-bit games, their Japanese versions and of course TMNT Arcade games. The collection’s 8-bit arcade games TMNT II: The Arcade Game, TMNT III: The Manhattan Project and the 16 bit TMNT IV: Turtles in Time and the Hyperstone Heist will also have multiplayer capability for up to 4 players.

Nickelodeon, which is an American cable TV channel focused on children’s programming, and expert retro game developer Digital Eclipse are currently working with Konami to bring this exclusively to the PS4 and PS5 consoles. “Our partners at Nickelodeon provided incredible footage from the original cartoon and comic book series and helped connect the franchise from across mediums,” said Charles Murakami, senior producer at Konami. Konami, a Japanese video game manufacturer, was responsible for producing many of the first TMNT games since 1989.

Modern quality of life features will be added to games, such as the ability to save anytime, rewind anytime, and button mapping. Custom game guides will also be included that match the aesthetic of video game magazines dating back to the 80s and 90s, when the first TMNT games were first developed by Konami.

The full list is as follows below and will include both Western and Japanese releases, with the exception of TMNT Arcade and Tournament Fighters (NES) as they do not have Japanese releases.

  • TMNT: Turtles in Time (Arcade)
  • TMNT II: The Arcade Game (NES)
  • TMNT III: The Manhattan Project (NES)
  • TMNT: Tournament Fighters (NES)
  • TMNT IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)
