Shots fired at large shopping complex and theme park leave one injured

A shooting was reported at the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford, New Jersey, sending shoppers fleeing stores for safety.

The New Jersey Police Department reported that shots were fired at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, April 7, on the second floor of the commercial section of the mall, adding that a 37-year-old man was shot several times occasions in what they called. an isolated incident.

The American Dream Mall immediately entered lockdown protocol, with shoppers rushing into stores to seek shelter. In an interview, Joyce Hadley, Levi’s store manager on the second floor, told CBS New York that employees are trained in emergency lockout procedures. Hadley says she and another store supervisor “decided to close the doors because we know protocol is to close the doors, turn off the lights, shut everyone up, and then go outside. ‘back”.

Some shoppers and employees had to take shelter for more than an hour as police secured the mall, with guns drawn to target the shooters.

After investigating the incident, New Jersey police determined there was no active shooter and advised family members who had been separated during the incident to reunite in Lot 26 .

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he is listed in serious but stable condition.

American Dream Mall released a statement on April 8 that reads:

American Dream is operating normal business hours today following an isolated incident last night, with New Jersey State Police confirming there is no cause for concern.

The safety and security of our guests, tenants and team members continues to be our top priority. We will continue to strengthen security and police presence throughout the facility.

As investigations continue, American Dream Mall has resumed normal operations and even held a massive event at Nickelodeon Universe, the mall’s theme park section, on April 9 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
