Natalie Nourigat and Ruth Strother on Parenting Struggles Explored in Disney’s Far From The Tree [Exclusive Interview]
Parenting is a difficult task which, depending on the situation, presents unique challenges. But at the end of the day, we just want what we think is best for our kids. Sometimes that means being accidentally overprotective and not wanting them to venture into certain situations. While some of these are quite valid, others are irrational and might actually stunt a child’s growth and development. To make this easier to understand, why wouldn’t we use a Disney short film? A title, Far from the tree.
Far from the tree comes from Disney Animation Studios. It is directed by Natalie Nourigat and produced by Ruth Strother. It made its world premiere at the Annecy International Film Festival 2021 last June. It is now ready for its worldwide release on November 24, 2021 alongside the feature film from the same studio, Encanto.
Far from the tree takes place in the Pacific Northwest. Inspired by the Oregon coast where the director and her family visited several times in their childhood. It explores the relationship between a parent and a child. Specifically, the emotional conflicts that arise when there is a need to protect a child from harm collide with the child’s need to grow and explore.
