Kevin Smith reveals he’s playing Nickelodeon’s Warped himself! Series
If you ever thought that Kevin Smith, creator of the Clerks plus Mallrats, Red State, Tusk, Jay and Silent Bob franchise, would almost certainly never be on Nickelodeon, then you’d be wrong. The previously announced new Nickelodeon comedy series Warped !, a live-action buddies comedy set in a comic book store, will feature Smith in at least one episode he himself stars in. Smith confirmed the news when speaking about the latest episode of his FatMan beyond LIVE while not knowing at all whether he should reveal the information. Speaking about his time on the show, Smith revealed that he filmed his episode last week and found it really funny, while wishing he had thought of it himself.
“I have to play myself, I don’t know if I’m even allowed to say it,” Smith said. “This is a show that takes place in a comic book store. F-cking loves it dude and they asked me to come and be there and stuff. Again, I don’t know if I’m messing things up but, i have to- here let me stop there i went to the warped set! and being a guy who owns a comic book store this set of f-cking was accurate like f-ck, very relevant I was sitting there saying, I told the creators, “I’m so mad I should have made this show. Like why I didn’t think about putting on a show at a comic book store, I love that shit. “I always say good ideas with ‘This should have been me!’
When his co-host Marc Bernardin pointed out to him that he had created a show like this, the reality TV series AMC Comic Book Men, Smith replied:
“It was reality, if only I had written a script. It looks good, the episode I’m in is very funny. Again, I hope I didn’t screw up their plans. . I have a big fucking mouth …. I had a great time, it was such a fun thing to do. I told them I live so close you can write to me in every episode, they were like ‘hahaha’ and I was like ‘No I’m really serious. Now, probably after that, they’re like’ You’ll never come back, you fucking mess up. ‘”
Co-created by Kevin Kopelow & Heath Seifert (All That, Good Burger), Veil! tells the story of Milo, the beloved geek of the popular comic book store Warped !, who forms an unlikely alliance with his eccentric and exciting new colleague Ruby to create the world’s greatest graphic novel. Kevin Kay (All That, Lip Sync Battle Shorties) is the executive producer, 13 episodes have been ordered for the series at the beginning of March.
Featured in the series is Kate Godfrey (All that) as Ruby, described as “an outgoing and impulsive pop culture nerd whose encyclopedic knowledge of comics makes her irreplaceable as a new recruit to Warped!” with Anton Starkman (Storks) as Milo, “the intelligent and responsible leader of the comic book store who constantly uses his creativity to keep him and Ruby out of trouble.”
Veil! also stars Ariana Molkara (Septembers of Shiraz) as Darby, who “creates his own comic book character costumes in the hopes of someday owning his own fashion line”, and Christopher Martinez (Timmy’s failure) like Hurley, “a pizzeria worker and budding chef who always has concoctions for his friends to try.”
The pilot of Veil! was directed by Jonathan Judge (All that, Punky Brewster, The Thundermans), the timing of its release has not yet been confirmed.
