Jellyfish wins investment from private equity firm

Private equity firm, Key Capital Partners (KCP), has made a minority investment in the vfx and animation house, Astonished Pictures.

Astonished clients include Disney+, Netflix, DreamWorks, Apple TV, HBO, Sky, BBC and Amazon and he has worked on productions including three Star Wars films (Lucas Films), drama series including Black Mirror and The Book of Boba Fett and recently completed an animated feature Spirit: Untamed and special How to Train Your Dragon: Homecoming for DreamWorks Animation.

KCP’s investment will contribute to the global scale of Astonishedanimation and visual effects teams, and develops the production of its original content for children and families thanks to Astonished Originals.

Astonished is headquartered in Brixton with another studio in Sheffield. The agreement with KCP will help the company reach over 600 employees in 2022.

The team of CEO Phil Dobree will be complemented by the appointment of Lynton Barker as non-executive chairman and KCP’s Philip Duquenoy as non-executive director.

The investment was led for KCP by Philip Duquenoy, James Hall and Matt Tice.

Legal advice was provided to KCP by Addleshaw Goddard, RSM provided financial and tax due diligence services and commercial due diligence was carried out by FTI.
